Docker Navigator: Think Big. Build Local. Run AI with Docker

Issue #0016 by Jackie Frederick
April 17, 2025

Welcome to the April 2025 edition of Docker Navigator. Missed an issue? Read past issues in our collection

Welcome to another issue of Docker Navigator! From running large language models on your Mac to testing smarter with Testcontainers, this month we’re all about giving you the tools to build, break, and rebuild — with speed and security.

You’ll find tips for spinning up GenAI experiments, building secure pipelines with Google Cloud, and even creating a Snake AI game in your browser (because learning should be fun, right?). Plus, we’re spotlighting updates from the Docker community, new training events, and where to find us IRL.

Run LLMs locally with Docker: A quickstart guide to Model Runner

Now available in Beta with Docker Desktop 4.40 for macOS on Apple silicon, Model Runner makes it easy to pull, run, and experiment with LLMs locally.

The future is non-deterministic — Michael Donovan, Docker

Listen in as Michael Donovan, VP of Product at Docker, explores how non-deterministic solutions, powered by Agentic Workflows, can change the way we build everything from developer tools to automated tests to microservices.

Around the Community

Check out the Docker Forums

Looking for help, curious about how others are using Docker, or want to share something cool you built? The Docker Forums are a great place to explore new ideas, ask questions, and collaborate with fellow developers.

Here’s what’s happening in the community:

  • Real-world troubleshooting — A user shared an issue running Pi-hole as a DNS server in a container. Forum members and Docker moderators teamed up to guide them to a fix.
  • r/docker is back! — After a wave of spam and lack of moderation, the r/docker/ Reddit community has rebooted. Thanks to the efforts of the community the subreddit has:
    • 8 new moderators
    • Active threads and discussions
    • A Docker Captain helping lead the way

Wherever you join in, one thing’s for sure — you’re never coding alone.
