SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – May 10, 2022 – Today at DockerCon 2022, Docker, Inc.®, a leading provider of cloud-native application development tools, content, and services for developers, announced the acquisition of Nestybox, a company focused on enabling containers to run more types of workloads with enhanced isolation. Nestybox Sysbox is an open-source container runtime that works below Docker and Kubernetes. It extends container technology with a hardened runtime that allows developers to use the productivity delivered by Docker without requiring elevated permissions on the developer machine.
“Nestybox joining Docker helps us extend the secure software supply chain capabilities of Docker” says Docker CEO Scott Johnston. “Nestybox brings deep knowledge of both security and containers to the team, and fits in with our commitment to helping organizations shift security left in the development lifecycle.”
Over 16 million developers use Docker each month to build, share and run cloud-native applications. The Nestybox acquisition strengthens the suite of security-focused technologies from Docker, such as Docker Official Images, Docker secure bill-of-materials, container image scanning and user management features including SSO designed to secure app development from end-to-end.
“We are excited to extend Sysbox container technology to millions of Docker developers around the world,” says Cesar Talledo, CEO at Nestybox. “Docker and Nestybox share a singular vision for the role of security, flexibility, and ease in container app development, and joining forces allows us to accelerate the effort to help companies secure and simplify their app development, while using the Docker technology they know and love.”
All Nestybox employees will join Docker. The Nestybox team will work closely with Docker’s go-to-market and engineering teams to integrate Sysbox into Docker subscription offerings and develop new security capabilities for application developers.
